Mandriva 2009 RC2 Tip: How to Update the System

with 3 comments

This is justĀ  quck tip for all of you out there who are trying to switch over from Windows to Linux and may have run into this issue. I’ve installed Mandriva 2009 RC2 on 2 machines and on both the updates did not work. For love nor money could I get the graphical updater to ever acknowledge that there were any new updates to be found.

I tried updating the sources. I tried changing mirrors. I clicked everyting that coudl be clicked and nothing. I was getting frustrated when I decided to go “old school” and use the console. I didn’t have a lot of faith it would do anything different, but low and behold it worked.

If you’ve been beating your head against the wall, here’s the quick fix. I’m not sure if there is a better way, but it worked for me. I’m open to suggestions.

  1. Open the console.
  2. Type su -
  3. Press Enter
  4. Enter your password
  5. type urpmi –auto-update
  6. Answer Yes when appropriate.

In a little while your machine will be up to date and what do you know, the graphical package manager now works. Hope this helps you.

  2. Thanks a lot for sharing this.
Since I installed RC2, it bugged me that there was no update available.
